Evangelist Ralph

Evangelist Raphael (Ralph) Adjei Kingbi, Ghana Ministry Coordinator for James Croft Evangelistic Association, led revival services last week in the capital city of Ghana's Northern Region.  Four people were saved during the five days of meetings held at Ridge Presbyterian Church in Tamale, Ghana.  The theme for the services was "The Cross in today's contemporary world."

According to Evangelist Ralph's Facebook posts, he narrowly escaped some "commotion" traveling to one of the services and was detained in a curfew on another night.

Evangelist Ralph Begins Revival Meetings in Tamale, Ghana

Ghana Bible Distribution Update and Bawku Revival

Evangelist Raphael (Ralph) Adjei Kingbi will be traveling into the Upper East Region of Ghana to lead revival services next week.  The meeting will be held at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Bawku Municipality August 15-20, 2010.  Evangelist Ralph pastors a church in the Northern Region of the West Africa country and serves as the Ghana Ministry Coordinator for James Croft Evangelistic Association.  The JCEA led several outdoor evangelistic events in Teshie, Accra in 2002-2004.

The Bawku Municipality, which is the second largest commercial city in the Upper East Region, has since 2007, been in turmoil, as a result of a communal violence between the Kusasis and the Mamprusis.  Evangelist Ralph reports the entire district in under a 10pm curfew and the conflict has affected church life.

"This revival will hopefully, by the Grace of God, bring back the love for worship," said Evangelist Ralph.

Please be in prayer for Ralph's travel, safety, and for the Lord to anoint him to preach the Gospel with His power and authority.

Ralph also reports the distribution of Bibles provided by a partnership between JCEA and First Baptist Church of Lake Butler, Florida is continuing.

"I have two boxes left (out of ten), one English and one local languages. I wish I have a camera to send you pictures of the distributions," he said.

Please pray the Lord will bless every copy of His Word that is distributed and each recipient.

Evangelist Ralph Preaches Youth Services

Paolo Mohenu Memorial Presby Church in Teshie-Accra, Ghana was the site of a five day youth revival for the Teshie District Young People's Guild (YPG).  JCEA Ghana Ministry Coordinator Evangelist Raphael Adjei Kingbi preached three of the services.

I received an e-mail from Edward Sowah, president of the Young People's Guild in Teshie, with some photos from the event.  He said, "By the grace of God our prayers was answered and we thank you for joining us to pray for the success of our 2010 revival."  He also said the Lord our God is still in the miracle business.

After some additional training Evangelist Ralph will make the long, hard journey back to Bimbilla, located in the Northern Region of Ghana.  He ministers in several villages in the area.

First Baptist Lake Butler Donates Bibles

My home church, First Baptist of Lake Butler, Florida, recently collected an offering for a Bible distribution in Ghana, West Africa.  JCEA Ghana Ministry Coordinator Evangelist Raphael Adjei Kingbi is now serving in the Northern Region of the West Africa nation and has found a great need for Bibles in the villages he is serving.  FBC Lake Butler collected over $1100 during morning worship for the purchase of the Bibles.

Evangelist Ralph reports the Bibles were purchased on Friday and distribution will begin within two weeks.  He was able to purchase approximately 200 bibles with the funds.  A majority of the bibles, 140, are in the Good News Version, an English translation.  English is the official language in Ghana, but many others are also spoken.  Sixty of the bibles are in a language known as Dagoba, which is spoken by many in Ralph's area of ministry.

Evangelist Ralph says this donation will be a great help in sharing the Gospel in this very rural area of Ghana.

Ralph & Mavis Celebrate Sixth Anniversary

James Croft Evangelistic Association Ghana Ministry Coordinator Evangelist Ralphael Adjei Kingbi and his wife Mavis are celebrating their 6th wedding anniversary today. Evangelist Ralph was our host in Ghana during our mission trips in 2002, 2003 & 2004.

Ralph & Mavis live in Teshie-Accra, Ghana, West Africa, but he is now serving as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Bimbilla, located in the Northern Region of Ghana.  The couple has two children, Ralph, Jr. and Emmanuella.

Bibles Needed for Ghana Village Ministry

The Ghana Ministry Coordinator for James Croft Evangelistic Association, Evangelist Raphael Adjei Kingbi is now serving as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Bimbilla, located in the Northern Region of Ghana.  He was transferred to the church several months ago from Teshie in the Greater Accra Region of the West Afican country.  The area he is serving is comprised of several villages.

One of the needs in his ministry is Bibles for the congregation and those he visits and evangelizes.  We take having access to a Bible for granted, but in his area there are in short supply.  The JCEA is preparing to begin a collection of Bibles for use in Evangelist Ralph's ministry.  We will also be accepting donations to purchase Bibles and cover shipping costs.  Additional details will be posted on this site as they become available.  If you would like to contribute to assist with this program visit our Ghana Ministry page on on the JCEA website and look for the donation link at the bottom of the page.

Please be in prayer for Evangelist Ralph as he serves in this new area of ministry, and in an area far from his hometown.  Also, pray for his wife and two children as they are still residing and attending school in Teshie.  He has certainly been faithful to leave his comfort zone for the cause of Christ!

One Saved During Clayland Revival

Revival services ended at Clayland Baptist Church last night. All services were well attended and a young man was saved on Sunday night. However, the "success" of a revival meeting is not determined by what takes place during the services, but by what happens in the weeks and months following the final service. I am looking forward to hearing about the Lord doing great things at Clayland Baptist in the coming weeks.

The revival meeting kicked-off on Saturday with a church ministry and mission fair. James Croft Evangelistic Association displayed information about our Ghana, West Africa mission work and the Christmas JOY Box Ministry. I was joined at the fair by Ghana team member Sonja St. John and her daughters Sarah and Alexx. Ghana construction team member Ken Crenshaw was also present to assist with the display.

Mission Presentation In September

I will give a presentation about our Ghana Ministry at Forest Grove Christian Academy on September 9, 2008. The mission emphasis program will be attended by middle and high school students at the school near Alachua, Florida. Forest Grove Christian Academy is operated by Forest Grove Baptist Church.

Naming Ceremony For Kingbi's Daughter

Evangelist Raphael Adjei Kingbi and his wife Mavis held a "Naming Ceremony" last week for their second child, a girl, born on June 4, 2008. By tradition, the child was not officially named until the ceremony held on June 18th.

The name given to the little girl is Emmanuella Naa Atswei Anang Kingbi.

Evangelist Ralph gave the following information concerning the meaning of each name.

Emmanuella - God with us
Naa Atswei - First female child
Anang - A 4th born son. Ralph is the 4th born son in his family
Kingbi - Ralph's mother had very fair skin and was called Kingbi, so this has been taken as the family name or the surname

Note: I have given this information as I understood it from Evangelist Ralph during a telephone call earlier today. Please forgive me if any of it is not exactly correct.

It's A Girl!

JCEA Ghana Ministry Coordinator Evangelist Raphael Adjei Kingbi and his wife Mavis are now the proud parents of a healthy baby girl. She was born on June 4, 2008 at 2:47pm (GMT) and weighed 3.5kg (7.7 lbs) and was 54cm (21.26 in.) long. Ralph and Mavis also have a 2 year-old son. The name of the baby girl will be announced during a "naming ceremony" tentatively scheduled for June 18th.

So, how about an "online baby shower" for this couple? Due to postal & customs regulations it would be difficult to send items to the Kingbi's, but we can wire money to them with no problem. Ralph said the hospital bill alone is around $150 in U.S. Dollars. That sounds cheap for a hospital bill in the U.S., but it is VERY expensive in Ghana. Of course, there is also all of the normal baby expenses that we have in the U.S., i.e. diapers and clothing. But they have some expenses we would not think of too, for example mosquito netting for the crib.

Evangelist Ralph To Lead Youth Service

Evangelist Raphael Adjei Kingbi will have a busy schedule of youth services over the next week. Evangelist Ralph serves as Ghana Ministry Coordinator for the James Croft Evangelistic Association in Teshie-Accra, Ghana, West Africa.

He will be leading a Junior High School Finalists Retreat tomorrow (Saturday). This is a half-day service that features a time of prayer for students preparing for their final examinations to move from junior high to senior high school. The service will be held at Paola Memorial Presbyterian Church in Teshie

Next Wednesday, April 23rd, he will be preaching during a youth revival at an Anglican Church. The following Friday night and Saturday morning, Evangelist Ralph will be speaking during an all-night youth retreat at the Methodist Church in Teshie.

I hope you will join me in praying for the ministry of Evangelist Ralph and for his family. His wife, Mavis, is expecting their second child, so much prayer is needed for this family. The two celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary yesterday (April 17th).

President Bush Visits Ghana

NOTE: I received a call from JCEA Ghana Ministry Coordinator, Evangelist Raphael Adjei Kingbi, telling me about US President George Bush visiting his country. He was excited about the visit, so I thought I would share a couple of stories about the president's trip to Ghana.

Bush Motorway Gets Favorable Mention

President Bush’s economic-development program for poor countries has been criticized for getting off to a slow start. So when he traveled this week to Ghana, regarded as one of the program’s star pupils, he was hoping finally to see some concrete results — literally.

Bush pressed his host, President John Kufuor, for a drive-by look at the major highway redevelopment being paid for with some of the $547 million grant the U.S. gave to Ghana in 2006. But at a state dinner on Wednesday night, Kufuor said the presidential inspection turned out to be impossible, given the time constraints. Kufuor promised to take Bush to see it the next time he comes to town, however, when Bush will be an ex-president — and, Kufuor added, the highway will be named the George Bush Motorway.

In Africa, Bush Shifts His Personal 'Mission of Mercy' to Ghana

ACCRA, Ghana — U.S. President George W. Bush is pushing trade and aid in this tropical land of gold and diamonds, the latest stop on what he has dubbed his "mission of mercy" to Africa.

Bush got a ceremonial welcome Wednesday in Ghana, a stable democracy that gets U.S. assistance to fight disease, build roads, train teachers and expand markets for its crops. Several thousand children in their school uniforms lined the streets of Accra and waved tiny Ghanian flags as Bush's motorcade made its 10-minute drive to Osu Castle, a centuries-old building that was once a hub of slave-trading and now is the seat of government.

I received an e-mail with a photo today from our Ghana Ministry Coordinator, Evangelist Raphael Adjei Kingbi. The photo is of his son, Raphael Nii Adjei Anang Kingbi. The photo was taken after a recent church service. You can read about the meaning of his name on this previous post. He was born on June 2, 2006 and you can hear his dad discussing his birth on our June 2006 and July 2006 editions of Walking With The Giant.

I often joke with Evangelist Ralph that I pray his son favors his wife Mavis (the pretty one) more than his dad (the ugly one). I'm glad Ralph has a good sense of humor. 8-)

In 2007, academic and theologian Dr Robert Beckford travelled to Ghana on a Christian Aid-backed trip to find out why Ghana is still struggling to break free from poverty 50 years after it gained independence.
