Ralph & Mavis Celebrate Sixth Anniversary

James Croft Evangelistic Association Ghana Ministry Coordinator Evangelist Ralphael Adjei Kingbi and his wife Mavis are celebrating their 6th wedding anniversary today. Evangelist Ralph was our host in Ghana during our mission trips in 2002, 2003 & 2004.

Ralph & Mavis live in Teshie-Accra, Ghana, West Africa, but he is now serving as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Bimbilla, located in the Northern Region of Ghana.  The couple has two children, Ralph, Jr. and Emmanuella.

Baxter Church On Saturday

I will be one of three guest speakers this Saturday, April 10th, during a fund raising event to re-open Baxter Church.  The event is scheduled to begin at noon and last until 6pm.  I will be preaching at 3pm.  Music will be provided by Dave & Sherrie, Eddie Croft & Debbie Smith, Mama's Angels, Angela Waldron and Don Self.  Speakers will include Rev. Oral Lyons and Rev. Donnie Mac Griffis.  A lunch will be served at 1pm and donations will be accepted.  The procedes will be used to re-establish the church in the community.  Baxter Church is located on County Road 127 in north Baker County.

He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth. —Isaiah 53:7

 

In 1602, Italian artist Caravaggio produced a painting called The Taking of Christ. This work, an early example of the Baroque style, is compelling. Created in dark hues, it allows the viewer to contemplate Jesus’ arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. Two main elements of the scene depicted in the painting demand the observer’s attention. The first is Judas as he delivers the traitor’s kiss. Immediately, however, the viewer’s focus is drawn toward Jesus’ hands, which are passively clasped together to show that He offered no resistance to this injustice. Although He possessed the power to create a universe, Christ gave Himself up voluntarily to His captors and to the waiting cross.

Long before this scene took place, Jesus told His listeners that no one could take His life from Him—He would lay it down willingly (John 10:18). This heart of voluntary surrender was prophesied by Isaiah, who wrote, “He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth” (Isa. 53:7).

Christ’s lamblike self-sacrifice is a grand indicator of His powerful love. “Greater love has no one than this,” He explained, “than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13). Think of it. Jesus loved you that much!  — Bill Crowder

Preacher's Donkey

A man bought a donkey from a preacher. The preacher told the man that this donkey had been trained in a very unique way (being the donkey of a preacher). The only way to make the donkey go, is to say, "Hallelujah!"

The only way to make the donkey stop, is to say, "Amen!"

The man was pleased with his purchase and immediately got on the animal to try out the preacher's instructions.

"Hallelujah!" shouted the man. The donkey began to trot. "Amen!" shouted the man. The donkey stopped immediately.

"This is great!" said the man. With a "Hallelujah" he rode off, very proud of his new purchase.

The man traveled for a long time through the mountains. As he headed towards a cliff, he tried to remember the word to make the donkey stop.

"Stop," said the man. "Halt!" he cried. The donkey just kept going.

"Oh, no..."

"Bible...Church!...Please! Stop!!," shouted the man. The donkey just began to trot faster. He was getting closer and closer to the edge of the cliff.

Finally, in desperation, the man said a prayer..."Please, dear Lord. Please make this donkey stop before I go off the end of this mountain, In Jesus name, AMEN."

The donkey came to an abrupt stop just one step from the edge of the cliff.

"HALLELUJAH!" shouted the man.

Leprechaun Incites Smiles And Giggles

I made my annual appearance as a real leprechaun at the Baker County Pre-K/Kindergarten Center in Macclenny, Florida on St. Patrick's Day 2010.  The kids and I had a great time together.  I read the book "The Night Before St. Patrick's Day" by Natasha Wing for almost every child in the school during four sessions.

After leaving the school, the leprechaun was off to the Baker County Council on Aging for a lunch-time St. Patrick's Day party.  The event featured a birthday gala for Mrs. Hilda Johnson, celebrating her 95th birthday on March 17th.  She was quite surprised to have a leprechaun show-up for her special day.

The day's activities drew to a close with an appearance in three 5th grade classrooms at Keller Intermediate School.  The leprechaun read to the students and answered numerous questions about the wee-ones of Irish folklore.  Of course, the leprechaun hoped to dispel vicious rumors about the activities of those that have leprechaunism (is that a word?)

A "real, live" leprechaun will again make an appearance at Baker County Pre-k/Kindergarten Center in Macclenny, Florida for St. Patrick's Day.  He will be reading a cool leprechaun story to the children.

Fletcher Makes Trip To Haiti

Florida Times-Union photojournalist Jon M. Fletcher recently returned from an assignment in Milot, Haiti.  Jon along with Times-Union columnist Mark Woods recently spent a week in the country to document a group of medical professionals from the Jacksonville area.  You can view the "Jacksonville to Haiti" project page on the paper's website, including articles, photos, videos, blog posts and more.

I will be preaching my first revival meeting for 2010 beginning this Sunday. This will also be my first revival meeting since undergoing hip surgery in November.  I can tell that I am not "operating" at 100%, but I'm making more progress each day.  I hope you will pray, not only for the Lord to move mightily in the services, but for safe travel and the physical strength needed to complete the task to which He has called me.

Bibles Needed for Ghana Village Ministry

The Ghana Ministry Coordinator for James Croft Evangelistic Association, Evangelist Raphael Adjei Kingbi is now serving as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Bimbilla, located in the Northern Region of Ghana.  He was transferred to the church several months ago from Teshie in the Greater Accra Region of the West Afican country.  The area he is serving is comprised of several villages.

One of the needs in his ministry is Bibles for the congregation and those he visits and evangelizes.  We take having access to a Bible for granted, but in his area there are in short supply.  The JCEA is preparing to begin a collection of Bibles for use in Evangelist Ralph's ministry.  We will also be accepting donations to purchase Bibles and cover shipping costs.  Additional details will be posted on this site as they become available.  If you would like to contribute to assist with this program visit our Ghana Ministry page on on the JCEA website and look for the donation link at the bottom of the page.

Please be in prayer for Evangelist Ralph as he serves in this new area of ministry, and in an area far from his hometown.  Also, pray for his wife and two children as they are still residing and attending school in Teshie.  He has certainly been faithful to leave his comfort zone for the cause of Christ!

Camp Sonrise Scheduled For June

I will once again be speaking each day during an annual children's camp sponsored by several churches in North and Central Florida June 21-24, 2010.  "Camp Sonrise" will be held at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Campground near Madison, Florida.  I will be leading devotions in the morning and preaching each night for the campers.  I really enjoyed last years' event and am excited to be participating again.  Please be in prayer for this opportunity.
