Civil rights leader's niece taking on abortion

ATLANTA - The niece of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Junior was among participants at a rally at Georgia's capitol Monday in favor of legislation called the Human Life
Amendment.

Alveda King is a pastoral associate with Priests for Life. It's a Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia.

King says protecting the unborn is a civil rights issue. She says the proposed amendment, which would establish that human life begins at conception, has non-partisan and multi-ethic support. King says human rights "transcend politics."
