The Evangelist

The Biblical office of evangelist is often one of the most overlooked and underutilized resources that God has presented in and through the local church to reach the world for Christ.  Why use evangelists?

  • Evangelists are called by God to specifically reach the lost.
  • Evangelists are able to communicate a direct Biblical message with a passion and zeal.
  • Evangelists cooperate with the ongoing work of local churches to reach their communities for Christ.
  • Evangelists encourage Christians in their daily zeal for soulwinning and discipleship.
  • Evangelists help churches culminate their long-term evangelistic efforts in harvesting the fields "white unto harvest".
  • Evangelists affirm the work of the local church pastor and the vision God has for his ministry through the local church.
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,
for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,
Ephesians 4:11-12 (NKJV)

Camp Sonrise Underway

Who are these guys??
Rain in the late afternoon didn't dampen the excitement of 120 children participating in Camp Sonrise 2011.  The four day children's camp is sponsored by several churches in north and central Florida, and takes place at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Campground near Madison.  I have the opportunity to share with campers and chaperones with morning devotions and evening worship services.  I hope you'll join me in praying for each of these services.

I'll be adding photos daily to the Camp Sonrise 2011 album on Facebook, as well as, posting daily updates on my personal profile page and JCEA ministry page.

Pack Your Bags!

A woman came home, screeching her car into the driveway, and ran into the house. She slammed the door and shouted at the top of her lungs, "Honey, pack your bags. I won the lottery!"

The husband said, "Oh my gosh!  What should I pack, beach stuff or mountain stuff?"

"Doesn't matter," she said.  "Just get out!"

Donations To This Ministry

I would like to thank everyone that has offered your support in the various ministries of the JCEA. Our ministries involve many facets that do not include financial compensation, i.e. school presentations, prison services, nursing home ministry, internet videos, etc. The only way I am able to dedicate the time and talents the Lord has blessed me with is through the offering of your prayers, your time and talents, and your generous financial donations. I pray the Lord blesses you tremendously for your investment. This investment may not see returns while on earth, but will certainly be realized in Heaven!

Again, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and with a sincere appreciation for all you do to further the Kingdom of God!

Duct Tape Dad

James & his dad, Johnnie Croft.
I was preaching out of town on Father's Day, but I got to have dinner with my dad, Johnnie S. Croft, Jr., last night. His Father's Day present was a gift card for his favorite store, and a roll of duct tape.

Duct tape?!?!  Yes, "duct tape".

Properly applied, duct tape can fix or hold just about anything together.  That's the way Christian dads should be.  When a dad depends totally on the Lord and has the Word of God in his heart, he is just like duct tape.  He just seems to know how to properly apply the adhesive that can hold anything together, i.e. job, family, finances.

I thank the Lord for my "duct tape dad"!

Atheists Want Sign Honoring 9-11 Firefighters Removed

A group of New York City atheists is demanding that the city remove a street sign honoring seven firefighters killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks because they said the sign violates the separation of church and state.

The street, “Seven in Heaven Way,” was officially dedicated last weekend in Brooklyn outside the firehouse where the firefighters once served. The ceremony was attended by dozens of firefighters, city leaders and widows of the fallen men.

“There should be no signage or displays of religious nature in the public domain,” said Ken Bronstein, president of New York City Atheists. “It’s really insulting to us.”

Bronstein told Fox News Radio that his organization was especially concerned with the use of the word “heaven.”

A Long Life

Rosa Mott & Clarice Witt
Tuesday evening, Mrs. Clarice Witt, a friend of mine and many others, passed away at Baya Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lake City, Florida.  She had been a resident of the center for the past few years.  I was sitting by her bed with her son and grand-daughter as she left this world.

Mrs. Witt lived a long life, in fact she turned 100 years old in February.  I got to know her as I would visit my great-aunt, Rosa Mott, at the center.  Aunt Rosie also turned 100 in February, just a few days before Mrs. Witt.  The picture in this post was taken during a combination Valentine's Day/Birthday Celebration for the two ladies.  Aunt Rosie is on the left and Mrs. Witt on the right.

Just imagine the changes these ladies have witnessed in our world and the inventions that changed their world.  There has been a lot of living for them since 1911.

I have been honored by the Witt family by being asked to speak at her funeral on Saturday with her pastor Rev. Rodney Baker of Hopeful Baptist Church. How do you sum-up 100 years of life in a few minutes?  I believe the most important thing that can be said is that, based on her testimony, there was a point in her life when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior!

How would your life be summed up in a few minutes?  Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior?  It's the most important decision you will ever make, no matter how many years you live on this earth.  If you would like to know more on this subject visit "Do You Know?"

You can read more about Mrs. Clarice Witt on the website of Gateway Funeral Home.

Wow!  100 years... that's a lot of living on this earth... but there's more to come!
