Baker County Election Coverage
Floridians went to the polls yesterday for the 2008 Primary Election. Once again I provided live coverage of results in my home county on WJXR 92.1 FM. I broadcast the results from the Baker County Supervisor of Elections office in Macclenny, Florida. I want to thank elections supervisor Nita D. Crawford and her staff for allowing us to use an office, providing us with results as soon as they were available and taking the time for an interview for our listeners. I also want to congratulate the Baker County elections staff for being the first county elections office in Florida to report complete results to the Florida Division of Elections and to the Associated Press.

Plaster Of Parish
A crumbling old church building needed remodeling, so, during his sermon, the preacher made an impassioned appeal looking directly at the richest man in town. At the end of the sermon, the rich man stood up and announced, "Pastor, I will contribute $1,000."
Just then, plaster fell from the ceiling and struck the rich man on the shoulder.
He promptly stood back up and shouted, "Pastor, I will increase my donation to $5,000."
Before he could sit back down, plaster fell on him again, and again he virtually screamed, "Pastor, I will double my last pledge."He sat down, and a larger chunk of plaster fell on his head.
He stood up once more and hollered, "Pastor, I will give $20,000!"
This prompted a deacon to shout, "Hit him again, Lord! Hit him again!"

MSNBC Survey
As of this date and time, over 3,000,000 votes have been cast in MSNBC's web poll about our nation's motto on U.S. currency. The question is "Should the motto "In God We Trust" be removed from U.S. currency?". I'm not sure how long this live vote will remain open, so check it out and voice your opinion.

A Rare Book
A collector of rare books ran into an acquaintance who told him he had just thrown away an old Bible that he found in a dusty, old box. He happened to mention that Guten-somebody-or-other had printed it.
"Not Gutenberg?" Gasped the collector.
"Yes, that was it!""You idiot! You've thrown away one of the first books ever printed. A copy recently sold at an auction for half a million dollars!"
"Oh, I don't think this book would have been worth anything close to that much," replied the man. "It was scribbled all over in the margins by some guy named Martin Luther."

The Door Stopper
Two church members were going door to door. They knocked on the door of a woman who clearly was not happy to see them. She told them in no uncertain terms she did not want to hear their message and then slammed the door in their faces.
To her surprise, the door did not close. In fact, it bounced back open.Seeing the two church members at the door frustrated her. She stormed back to the door and flung it shut.
But the door still didn't close. Furious, she grabbed the door with two hands and shoved it as hard as she could. But again, the door wouldn't shut.
Convinced one of these rude church members was sticking a foot in the door, she reared back to give the door a slam that would really teach them a lesson.
Just then, one of the church members said, "Ma'am, before you do that again, you might want to move your cat."

Over 100 Attend Youth Rally
Organizers of the Lafayette Baptist Association Youth Rally last Saturday night said the crowd of youth and adults exceeded 100 people. The event was held at Lebanon Baptist Church near Branford, Florida. Kevin Owen and Cheryl Kent (pictured with me) led the music and had the youth on their feet singing along. Youth from the host church performed a skit that explained the plan of Salvation. I had the honor of bringing a message from God's Word. We had quite a few come to the altar during the time of decision. God was certainly moving during the service!
You can view more photos from the youth rally in this photo gallery.
I'll be back at Lebanon Baptist to lead revival services September 21-24, 2008. Details will be posted on this site as it gets closer to the event.
UPDATE: I just learned the official count was 138.

Olympic Athletes: Faith More Important than Gold Medals
It takes years of sweat, pain and determination to qualify for the Olympics, but some of the world’s top athletes heading to Beijing want the world to know there is something more important than winning gold medals – a relationship with God.
Allyson Felix, three-time U.S. Outdoor 200m champion and 2004 Olympic silver medalist; Brian Clay, 2004 Olympic decathlon silver medalist; and Ryan Hall, 2008 Olympic marathon runner, are just some of the Olympians competing in the 2008 Beijing Games that are sharing the importance of their Christian faith with fans.
Through the Web Site BeyondTheUltimate.org, sponsored by the ministry Athletes in Action, these elite sportspersons share their personal stories about their ultimate goal in life.

A Letter Addressed To God
A letter written in a childish scrawl came to the post office addressed to "God". A postal employee, not knowing exactly what to do with the letter, opened it and read: "Dear God, my name is Jimmy. I am 6 years old. My father is dead and my Mom is having a hard time raising me and my sister. Would you please send us $500?" The postal employee was touched. He showed the letter to his fellow workers and all decided to kick in a few dollars each and send it to the family. They were able to raise $300.A couple of weeks later the same post office received a second letter addressed to God. The boy thanked God for the recent infusion of cash, but ended with this request: "Next time would you send the money directly to us? If you send it through the post office they deduct $200."

Youth Retreat Update
We've had a great day at the Chapel Hill Baptist Church youth retreat in St. George Island, Florida. We got underway with breakfast followed by each one having a personal quiet time to study. I preached our morning worship service (see photo) in a meeting room overlooking the St. George Bay. After the service the youth answered questions about the Bible passage in the sermon (see photo). An exploratory walk along the shoreline and a nearby dock provided a lot of things for discussion (see photo).
After lunch it was time for a trip to the beach and then some free time. The boys took full advantage of their free time by doing a little fishing. Before supper we watched some really cool Christian videos on YouTube. I'll post some of these over the next few days. One of the videos was produced by one of the boys on our retreat. You can view the video below.
During our evening worship service we studied about the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ and how this relates to Jesus' statement in John 14:6.
A game of Capture the Flag on the grounds of St. George Island Christian Retreat Center lasted until dark. Everyone then came in to watch the movie Facing The Giants with popcorn. 8-)
Tomorrow we will have one last Bible study after breakfast and do a little cleanup at the retreat center. It will then be time to head back to Tallahassee. I'll post a final update late tomorrow.

Youth Retreat Begins Today
We have arrived at the St. George Island Christian Retreat Center in St. George Island, Florida to begin a weekend youth retreat. This youth event is sponsored by Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida. The facilities here are excellent and some of the boys are already doing a little fishing.
The center is owned and operated by First Baptist Church of St. George Island. I just met Pastor Mike Whaley and the retreat center director Robert Fowler and they have made us feel very welcome.
I hope to be posting some photos over the next couple of days. The retreat will end on Monday morning.
