Is there a future for Bibles in hotels?
Trends in hotels and motels appear to be moving away from traditionally placed Gideon Bibles to something of a more controversial nature.
The American Hotel and Lodging Association says use of religious materials in rooms at luxury hotels has dropped by 18 percent since 2001. Conversely, many upscale "boutique hotels" -- designed to cater to a younger leisure travel demographic as opposed to the shrinking business guest clientele -- are adding amenities like condoms, intimacy kits, and sexually oriented games.
That stands in stark contrast to rooms at Myer Hotels, says marketing spokesman Chris Myer, where Bibles are on display on top of the dresser, open and book-marked.
