Gaza Baptist Church seized by Palestinian Authority Police
An official with Open Doors International says the only evangelical church in Gaza has been seized by Palestinian Authority police, and the pastor of that Baptist congregation is describing conditions in the violence-riddled area as "the worst situation we ever went through."
Last week Pastor Hanna Massad of Gaza Baptist Church, the only evangelical church in Gaza, reported that Palestinian Authority police of the Fatah party had seized the church as a watch point against terrorists supporting the governing Hamas movement. Massad says police demanded the building key from a guard, who had no key, and then broke in after church leaders refused to supply one.Al Jenssen is communications director with Open Doors International, a ministry which serves the persecuted Church. He says Gaza Baptist Church is caught in the middle of the fighting between the secular Fatah party and the majority Islamic party, Hamas.
