Dobson stresses unity, repentance for Day of Prayer observance

The chairwoman of the National Day of Prayer is urging people observing tomorrow's event to follow the example of King David when they seek "divine help." Seeking such aid, says Shirley Dobson, the only way to heal a culture wracked with violence and anxiety.

On Thursday (May 3) Americans will observe the National Day of Prayer (NDP), an event that has been a part of the country's history since the Continental Congress of 1775. Congress and President Harry S. Truman established NDP as an annual event by a joint resolution in 1952. Then in 1988, President Ronald Reagan amended that law, declaring that the first Thursday of May would be a National Day of Prayer.

Mrs. Dobson says tomorrow is a day for Americans of all faiths to "drop their denominational tags and racial and cultural differences" and unite in prayer.
