NC city council votes to continue prayer

A city council in North Carolina has decided to adopt a new policy governing public invocations at their meetings, despite a previous threat of legal action from the American Civil Liberties Union.

The Thomasville council voted 6-1 this week to approve a prayer policy drafted by the Alliance Defense Fund, which contends the policy is in compliance with the U.S. Constitution. Senior legal counsel Mike Johnson says approval of the policy a great development. "I think a lot of city officials have said they are just not willing to bow to these radical secularist demands of the ACLU any longer," says the attorney.
