Fight for the faith

Josh Rutgers believes his Deadgame Fight School sends a clear message

Josh Rutgers' clients don't claim to be saints. They show up on his doorstep with rap sheets rather than resumes, tattoos rather than tee times. Some are looking for a fight. Some are looking for a better life.

Both can be found in the back of an old warehouse on the outskirts of San Jose where Rutgers trains his students in shootfighting and mixed martial arts.

"[We] take the thing that's trying to destroy them and turn it into something that changes their life," Rutgers said.

At Deadgame Fight School, the duels with few rules seem to contradict the images of Jesus hanging on the walls. Not to Rutgers. He posts Scripture to encourage his students. A "No Profanity" sign greets fighters at the front entrance.
